Schools in China

It’s easy to see why China is such a popular destination for teachers. The average salary for teaching English in the country is one of the highest globally, meaning teachers can save a nice amount of money whilst still enjoying a comfortable lifestyle. In addition, China has one of the oldest and most fascinating cultures in the world, and getting to experience this culture in diverse locations adds to the country’s appeal. Teachers can easily find opportunities in cities with a rich history and a traditional Chinese feel such as Beijing, as well as more modern, bustling megacities such as Shanghai and Shenzhen. Recent estimates suggest that close to 400 million people in China are learning English, and that number is expected to keep on growing. This high demand for English-speaking teachers, along with China’s rapidly growing economy, means there’s an enormous amount of opportunities throughout the country. In fact, out of the estimated 250,000 English speakers teaching the language worldwide, over 100,000 of them are located in China! Teaching opportunities in China can be found within a variety of different school types.

Teach Through an Agency

A Teacher Agency in China is an education company that is partnered with a large variety of Kindergartens, Public Schools and Private Schools (usually within the same city or province). For those with no previous teaching experience who would like to teach in one of these school types, working for a Teacher Agency is a brilliant way to do so. Teacher Agencies specialise in bringing new teachers into China, and provide them with comprehensive teacher training upon arrival. This training ensures that all new teachers, regardless of experience level, have the skillset that working in a Kindergarten, Public School or Private School requires. They are extremely popular in China, due to the high demand by parents for their children to learn English. Most Training Centres provide all of their new teachers with extensive training during their first month of work, and the average class size in Training Centres is much smaller than those found in other school types in China, with usually no more than 10 students per class. This makes a Training Centre the perfect environment for those with no previous teaching experience who would like to teach in China.
