Teaching English in China
During the 21st Century, the desire to learn English has boomed across the globe, with an estimated 20% of the world’s population currently learning the language in some capacity. That’s nearly 2 billion people! It’s the most commonly studied language in the world and is both taught and spoken in over 100 countries. There is however one country where it is taught more than any other – China.
Out of the estimated 250,000 native English speakers teaching the language across the world, over 100,000 of them are located in China. Recent estimates suggest that close to 400 million people in China are currently learning English and that number is expected to keep on rising. Due to China’s rapidly growing economy and high demand for English teachers, there are a huge amount of opportunities available, and the average salary for teaching English is one of the highest globally. Teachers in China can earn and save a substantial amount of money teaching English to students in Kindergartens, Public Schools, International Schools, or Training Centres.
China has one of the oldest and most fascinating cultures in the world, and getting to experience this culture in a variety of diverse locations adds to the appeal of teaching English in this country. Teachers will be able to easily find opportunities in cities with a rich history and a traditional Chinese feel such as Beijing and Xi’an, as well as modern, bustling mega cities such as Shanghai and Shenzhen.
